Department of Chemical Engineering

Introduction

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences (e.g. chemistry and physics) and life sciences (e.g. biologymicrobiology and biochemistry) together with mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It essentially deals with the engineering of chemicals, energy and the processes that create and/or convert them. Modern chemical engineers are concerned with processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. They are also concerned with pioneering valuable materials and related techniques – which are often essential to related fields such as nanotechnologyfuel cells and bioengineering. Today, the field of chemical engineering is a diverse one, covering areas from biotechnology and nanotechnology to mineral processing:

The Department

The Department of Chemical Engineering was founded in 2009 at University of Zanjan. Based on a thorough background in chemistry, mathematics, and physics, the courses within the department have been aimed at preparing well-qualified chemical engineers who can address various challenges related to the chemical industries. The Department starts his work by education in food industry at 2009 by 44 undergraduate’s students. In recognition of Iran as a major oil producing country, the Department focused on oil upstream and downstream technologies and processes, as one of the main targets. Presently, the Chemical Engineering Department includes 5 full time faculty members, 4 staff, 8 rations, 4 visiting and more than 350 students of who are undergraduate students.

Undergraduate Programs

To be qualified for the B.S. degree in the Chemical Engineering, preparation of a chemical or petroleum engineering project and undertaking a period of industrial training are required. The B.S. program usually takes 4 years to be completed. The general and basic courses offered at undergraduate level are as follows:

  1. Humanities, Physical Education, and Foreign Language
  2. Basic Sciences including Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry
  3. Basic Courses in Chemical Engineering and Related Laboratories
  4. Advanced and Specialty Courses
  5. Elective Courses

Department Facilities

The department has a number of educational laboratories including:

  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Heat Transfer Laboratory
  • Petroleum Engineering Laboratory
  • Process Control Laboratory
  • Unit Operation Laboratory
