Investigation of effective parameters on chemical leaching of copper from chalcopyrite ore
Abstract

This study investigates the effective parameters on chemical copper extraction from chalcopyrite ore. The leaching experiments were carried out in 200 ml acidic ferric sulfate solution in stoichiometric amount for 1 g/L chalcopyrite (CuFeS2). The results showed that the reaction rate increased by increasing the temperature and 70oC was selected as leaching temperature. The reaction rate increased with reduction in particle size from 1 to 0.05 mm. Leaching tests were carried out in low concentration of ferric ion solution for decreasing in jarosite precipitation in ferric sulfate solution as a limiting parameter, and the optimum copper recovery was achieved in 1/10 stoichiometry of ferric sulfate concentration. The copper extraction rate increased with increasing in initial pH from 1.5 to 2.5 in 1/10 stoichiometry of ferric sulfate concentration. The optimum redox potential was achieved in the range of 400-440 mV.
