Investigation drug delivery properties of graphene oxide nanosheets

Abstract


Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in hexagonal lattice. It shows higher loading capability of different materials such as drugs due to its planar structure and high specific area surface. Functionalized graphene has numerous potential applications in biology, medicine specialy drug delivery, antibacterial, cancer recognition, tissue engineering and etc. Carbon allotropes such as graphene and nanotubes can be used as drug delivery systems. These materials can pass through the cell membrane and release drug after penetration onto the target cell. In this paper, graphite oxide was synthesised by Hummers method. The prepared graphite oxide exfoliated by ultrasonication. Graphene oxide was characterized by UV-visible, Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopy. The poential of Cisplatin loading on graphene oxide was tested by use of Inductively Coupled Plasma analysis. Results showed that cisplatin molecules cab be fix on graphene oxide up to 89%.
