Preparation of Biodegradable Polymeric Beads for Absorption of Heavy Metals Ions from Water
Abstract

Heavy metal such as lead is toxic metal that have the most widely distribution in water resource. The lead has no known biological role.1Even the trace amount of lead has been nerves physiological effects on humans. Therefore removal of these pollutants from water resources is a major concern and many researches are focusing to address this issue. Peptide and proteins consisting of metal binding amino acids enhanced beads corporate to removal heavy metal due to their unique structural.2 In this work, electrospray system was employed to fabricate biodegradable polymeric beads/microbeads from Whey protein and alginate mixed solution in the presence of CaCl2 (Figure 1). The prepared beads filled in cylindrical tube and water contains pb2+ passed that. The output water was analysed by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The results showed that pb2+ concentration of the feed sample drastically decrease. This observation is quite evident that the removal of heavy metal with this method is achieved.
