Effects of different parameters on the discharging of double-layer PCM through the porous channel

Abstract


In recent years the use of phase change materials has been seriously considered due to its high energy storage capacity, and balancing between the peak hours of energy consumption and production. This work is devoted to presenting a numerical study on the double-layer phase change material solidification within a porous channel with two inner and outer sections. Sections are constructed in a rectangular shape and phase change material pours through the porous matrix to compensate low thermal conductivity and accelerate the rate of heat transfer and solidification. For this reason, two PCMs of RT35 and RT50 are located in two sections and solidification process begins applying cold temperature on the internal walls. Results are corresponded for the effects of different parameters such as PCM arrangements, eccentricity of sections, medium porosity and temperature of internal wall on the rate of solidification in the channel. According to the numerical results, a suitable arrangement for the rapid solidification of PCM is found, and in this case, inner and outer eccentricity effects on the rate of solidification are discussed.
