ANALYSIS OF UNSTEADY FLOW IN AHARCHAI RIVER BETWEEN KASIN AND ORANG HYDROMETRIC STATIONS USING MUSKINGUM AND MUSKINGUM-CUNGE METHODS  
Abstract


Analysis of unsteady flow in open channel is possible through two numerical and hydrological methods. In the hydrological method, Muskingum and MuskingumCunge methods are applied for flood routing in the rivers. In the present paper, flood routing has been conducted along Aharchai River (between Kasin and Orang hydrometric stations) in the East Azarbaijan Province. This paper conducted routing calculations by Muskingum and Muskingum Cunge methods through using the results of prior observed flood and then conducted calculations of flood flow in two states, from upstream to downstream and from downstream to upstream. The results reveal that accuracy of both methods is acceptable but accuracy of Muskingum method is better than Muskingum Cunge method. Outflow hydrograph in Muskingum method is better matched with the observed values compared to Muskingum Cunge method. The average error percentage is 10% in Muskingum method and 22.2% in Muskingum Cunge method.
