About the department

A glance at the department of Geology

The department of geology has started its activity since 1993 by educating geology students for B.S. degree. By the end of academic year 91-92, about 550 students have been graduated from the department. Most of the students who have been graduated from our department have continued their studies in higher education in other universities across the country. For the first time in the year 2006 M.S. students started their studies in our department and by the end of the year 2013 the number of graduated M.S. students  from our university reached to 45. Now our department accepts M.S. student for Petrology, Economic Geology and Paleontology.

The geology department has different laboratories including ICP Lab., Igneous and metamorphic rocks Lab., Mineralogy Lab., Structuralgeology and Photogeology Lab., Economic geology Lab., Sedimentary rocks and sedimentology Lab., Paleontology Lab. and Applied mineralogy (Mineral processing)Lab. Meanwhile, there is a laboratory for crashing and powdering the sediment and rock samples. Also, there are laboratories for preparing thin sections, polish sections, and thin-polish sections. The geology department has 12 academic members, one of them is associate professor and the rest are assistant ones. By having experienced members and adequate equipment, the department of geology is ready to do exploration and research project in different fields including magmatism, metallogeny and mineral exploration.
