Effect of γ-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) treatment on postharvest index and vase-life of rose cut flowers cv. Red Naomi
Abstract

Abstract Vase life considers as the most important quality index of cut flowers which is applied to determine the value of flowers and evaluating of new introduced varieties. Current study was conducted to investigate the effect of GABA in five doses included 0,1,5,10,15 mM on postharvest indices of rose cut flowers cv. Red Naomi included vase life, ion leakage, dry weight, neck bending rate, petals browning, developmental stages and relative solution uptake of flower. GABA neither does contraindication nor harmful effect on health and can be used as a safe chemical in agricultural crops and products. Results showed that GABA treatment had a significant effect (%1) on neck bending, petals browning, developmental stages, relative solution uptake as well as vase life (%5) compared to the control, however, no significant effect was observed related to dry weight and ion leakage. Key Words: γ-Aminobutyric Acid, postharvest, rose
