The construction project of ZNU optical observatory was proposed and followed by department of physics members in 1381 (2002 AD) coincide when the Annual Physics Conference of Iran was held at the University of Zanjan. The observatory building design is taken from the observatory at University of Shiraz. Observatory dome was built and installed according to Mr. Hasani's plan and under Dr. Safari's supervision in Zanjan. In terms of resistance to wind and other climatic factors, the dome is unique in Iran. ZNU observatory with 260 square meters of infrastructure is built on two floors. 16-inch meade telescope, CCD and photometers facilities, along with several other small telescopes and various needed filters are some of the available facilities. Amateur observations training and conducting research projects on astronomy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels are some of the services offered in this observatory.
