Geological and mineralization characteristics of Goorgoor iron occurrence, NW Takab
Abstract

Goorgoor iron occurrence is located in the northern part of Sanandaj-Sirjan zone, 25 km west of Dandy. Rock units exposed in the study area consist of alternation of schist and quartzite (equal to the Kahar Formation) rocks. These units are overlain by marble and dolomitic units. Their contacts are mostly faulted. Iron mineralization occurs as lens-shaped bodies parallel to schistosity of the host rocks. Folding is observed in both mineralized bands and host rocks. Based on field and macroscopic studies, iron mineralization consists of magnetite and quartz bands, vary in width from few millimeter to 5 cm. Based on these studies, magnetite is the main ore mineral which is accompanied with minor hematite. Quartz is present in the gangue minerals. The ore minerals show laminated, massive, and disseminated textures. Alteration is restricted to hematitic parts of the ore zones. This study indicates that iron mineralization in the Goorgoor occurrence seems to be volcano-sedimentary type
