Petrography and microstructural studies related to ductile deformation in Lulak Abad area, east of Mahneshan
Abstract

Lulak Abad area is located in northwestern part of the Central Iran, 70 km west of Zanjan. Rock units exposed in this area consist of schist and mylonitic metavolcanics (equal to Kahar formation), mylonitic granite and microdiorite. Based on the petrographic studies, schist rocks include chlorite- biotite- muscovite schist, and muscovite schist; metavolcanics are metadacite, rhyolitic metatuff and metaandesite. Based on these studies, schist rocks show granolepidoblastic; metavolcanics and microdiorite represent porphyritic and microgranular textures, respectively. Microstructural studies show that ductile deformation is the main deformation phase in the Lulak Abad area. It is characterized by pervasive mylonitic foliation, crenulations cleavage, strain shadow, boudinage structure, σ type mantel porphyroclast, and mortar and mechanical textures in deformed rocks.
