Halab iron occurrence in the northern part of Sanandaj-Sirjan zone is located in the south-west of Zanjan (26 km south-west of Dandy). Iron mineralization is hosted by schist and quartzite sequence. All lithologies in this area are to be understood as metamorphic equivalents of Kahar Formation which is overlain by Jan Gutaran marble and dolomitic unit. Their contacts are mostly faulted. The iron mineralization is stratiform within the metamorphosed Kahar Formation and occurs as banded iron parallel to the foliation of host schist units. Magnetite and hematite are the main ore minerals in this occurrence. The ore minerals show disseminated, laminated, banded and massive textures. The magnetite of the Halab iron is characterized by annealing textures. Pyrite in small amounts is the result of sulfide mineralization. Goethite, limonite and barite are products of supergene processes. |
