Goorgoor iron occurrence, northeast of Takab: Metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary type of mineralization in Sanandaj- Sirjan zone
Abstract

Goorgoor iron mineralization occurs as lens-shaped bodies parallel to the foliation of schist units of Kahar Formation. Based on mineralography, ore minerals are magnetite±pyrite, and quartz and tourmaline are present as gangue minerals at Goorgoor. The ore minerals show disseminated, laminated, banded and massive textures. Alteration is restricted to sericite and quartz-tourmaline alteration parts of the ore zones. Two stages of mineralization can be distinguished at Goorgoor. The first stage is recognized as stratiform and stratabound lenses, laminated and disseminated crystals of magnetite in schist units. Stage-2 mineralization is occurred as alternating bands of magnetite and quartz. REE pattern of nonmineralized host rocks and the mineralized samples indicate that mineralized samples are depleted in LREE and enriched in HREE. Characteristics of Goorgoor iron occurrence are comparable with metamorphosed volcano-sedimentary type of iron deposits. Identification of these characteristics can be used as a model for exploration of this type of iron mineralization at Sanandaj-Sirjan zone.
